Bluepeace carried out the project with funding from GEF (Global Environment Facility) Small Grants Programme.
The primary objective of the project is to document and conserve the mangrove systems of Haa Alifu Filladhoo, Haa Alifu Baarah, Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo and Haa Dhaalu Keylakunu. Objectives also include protection of local knowledge on mangroves, strengthening biodiversity conservation, natural resource management and in assist in the fight against climate change.

Specific activities carried out under the project include;
- Under the project a study was carried out establishing a baseline of environmental conditions of significant mangrove habitats of Haa Alifu Filladhoo, Haa Alifu Baarah, Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo and Haa Dhaalu Keylakunu.
- Under the project an informative website has been developed with detailed information on the mangrove eco systems of Haa Alifu Filladhoo, Haa Alifu Baarah, Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo and Haa Dhaalu Keylakunu with information on best practices of mangrove protection.
- Conducted community awareness programme to protect the mangroves in the future, focusing on conservation of the mangroves systems and the importance of it in protecting the islands from future natural disasters and in the fight against climate change. Billboards, Posters and a booklet on mangroves were developed to create awareness on the importance of protecting the mangroves.
